Software Asset Management Analyst                    

Role purpose

Reporting to the IT Asset Manager, the primary purpose of the SAM Analyst’s role is to ensure overall optimisation of the Company’s software licensing estate. The individual will be responsible for delivering effective software asset management including the planning, acquiring, deploying, managing, optimising, auditing and retiring of software assets. Working within the IT function and closely with the wider business, the role holder will provide overall expertise and governance about all software assets inclusive of managing compliancy and internal and external licensing audits.

Key Accountabilities

  •          Monitor and optimise the Company’s licensing position, driving down costs and ensuring risk mitigation to avoid non-compliance, within IT and the wider business.
  •          Work closely with IT teams to ensure that the software asset and administration processes are consistent and maintained.
  •          Control the software assets in use across the company, ensuring they are used appropriately, efficiently and in line with the Companies needs and requirements at all times.
  •          Direct reviews of suppliers, tools and processes for continually improving performance and reducing costs.
  •          SME to advise on optimisation and management of the existing license estate inclusive of recommending appropriate license models for future activity and growth.
  •          Establish a license re-harvesting/optimisation process, implementing an audit schedule for workplace applications to ensure license positions are frequently monitored for compliance and optimisation.
  •          Monitor and provide proactive notification of delays in decommissioning of software likely to require extended support.
  •          Provide regular view of vendor audit risk profiling – periodic review to identify which suppliers are likely to audit, and managing any external license audit processes inclusive of commercial responses.

 

Skills Knowledge & Experience

  •          Broad knowledge and understanding of license technicalities for key vendors such as Microsoft, IBM and VMWare.
  •          Broad, mature and rounded expertise of corporate Software license management, Procurement lifecycles and best practise.
  •          Experience with corporate SAM tools.
  •          Excellent consultative and communication skills, analytical ability, decision making with the ability to work effectively across the IT organisation at all levels.
  •          Exceptional detailed and analytical approach, capable of working with complex commercial information and mapping large license data sets to identify opportunities for optimising.
  •          Experience in Asset Management processes and techniques.
  •          Knowledge and experience of ITIL Service Delivery and improvement.
  •          Experience from a comparable role within Asset Managament
  •          Ideally degree educated.
  •          Software license management certifications.
  •          Understanding of Service Management, information security process & regulatory practice procedures e.g. ITIL, ISO 27001 / PCI - ITIL3 Service Transition an advantage.
